Augustine and Era of silence for Philosophy questions?
Thursday, September 18th, 2008My first question is why did Augustine claim that Platonists came closer to Christian teaching than any other school? What scripture passages does he counterpose to Paul’s pointed statement in his letter to the Colossians and how does he deal with Colossians?
Also why is there so little philosophy being written in the approximately 500 years between Boethius and Anselm?
I’ve been trying these couple of questions for hours and so far, I’ve really found nothing? Some help please?
Has anyone written a book on the philosophy of Bob Marley?
Thursday, September 11th, 2008Perhaps it is not an original idea since there are books based on the philosophy of Star Trek and on comic books made simplified. O what is the publishing industry getting at these days?
Alas, are we all idiots babbling about lovin’ on V. Day? Il est fou, ce mec!
wow, the first answer is great. Hopefully more will follow. I started reading a book on Bob M. and the Wailers (Bunny and Peter Tosh) before they got famous.
I left the book back in Puerto Rico but hopefully my son, Roberto Luis, will bring it when he comes to Connecticut on Thursday.
BTW, I usually start the day listening to , dancing to , playing the drums to, and singing along with Bob.
In studying philosophy, did you ever doubt the existence of the external world?
Thursday, September 11th, 2008With so many unanwerable hypothesis which attack the veracity of the senses:
What if I’m in the Matrix?
What if I’m dreaming?
What if I’m some kind of “experiment”?
What if everyone else is a robot?
Am I the only being with a mind (solipsism) and everyone just appears to have one?
What if I’m God and created this universe and put myself in it only to forget I did so?
What if I’m a computer program or a holographic program?
I’ve heard all of these ideas and much, much more. They are very common in philosophy. So, have you ever thought about these questions? What conclusions did you come to?
