Someone asked:
I have tried reading the work of Aristotle and I found it to be kind of hard. The philosophy of Spinoza was much more easier and I was able to understand it, but I still want books that will give me a general outlook of philosophers and their philosophies, in which I’d be then able to understand their work through itself with ease.

Jack K asked:
I would like to be a scientist and only have enough room in my schedule for one class, history of western civilization or philosophy of science. Which is a better class and by better I mean more interesting and more useful. Will philosophy of science actually make me a better scientist and give a greater understanding of how science works. For anyone who’s actually taken a philosophy of science course, what do you think?

heeltap asked: note: (stmts= statements) to fit the Q in the Q-box.
Please note; I of course refer to substantive philosophy Q’s involving opinions not the factual information type requests like the “Where can I find monkey wrenches?” or the “Do you know where I can find info on Kant’s claim that some knowledge stmts are both priori & synthetic?”
minor correction: sub “a priori” for “priori”
also pls remember that the Q’s cited are nothing more than illustrative examples and answering them is unnecessary.

Brennen B asked: I am taking a class about the ethics of eating and the effect on animals, society and the environment. Most people are saying that they try to better the world and eat ethically by eating organic, vegetarian, local grown, etc.
However, one person claims that eating fast food is just the American way of life. We are so complacent as a culture and he enjoys fast food so much that he doesn’t want to change. This kind of one life to live, my happiness comes first, borderline selfish attitude can be describe under which philosophical terms? Thanks.

heeltap asked:
Before you answer, ask yourself this Q first: If anyone were to look up your Q&A profile and examine your philosophy A’s which attitude do you think prevails there?
In philosophy, reasons or some kind of explanations are usually offered in a complete answer. At least that is my expectation.
Unable to verify ” both” when the Answerers Q&A is private. Generally both is a meaningless word w/o explanation. Where is the cooperation in that?
” Adversarial and cooperative are not mutually exclusive,” Nobody has implied otherwise. Which is dominant for you and why?
