Can anybody recommend any good philosophy books?
Sunday, November 8th, 2009joe.tiplady asked:
I’m only 16 and really into philosophy and deeper thinking. I often loose concentration in lessons due to being off in another world thinking about things. I would really love to read a few books on philosophy of any kind, but will my local library have any? And if so could anyone recommend some good ones?

Are there elements of solipsism in Nietzsche’s philosophy?
Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009Stephen Daedelus asked:
I’ve been reading the Genealogy of Morals lately as well as Thus Spake Zarathustra and my possibly interpretations keep leading me to believe that he had some elements of solipsism in his philosophy. So I have two questions:
1.Are there elements of solipsism in Nietzsche’s philosophy? 2.How exactly does solipsism fit into Nietzsche’s philosophy?

As a new philosophy student, what kind of books and by what authors should I start with? Kant? Mill?

I have a basic intro to philosophy book… but philosophy has always been my life, and that is required reading for the college class I am taking (im 16 by the way) so it is too simple for me… I wanted to move on to higher reading as the class goes on… many times I find I have already discovered an idea before I read it from a famous philosopher… like the rules of inference in logical deduction, and such. So does it matter where I start? I was thinking of buying Immanuel Kant’s A critique of pure reason because its only 1.50 on amazon.com… is this too difficult to start with? Does it matter?
